Lemongrass, or Cymbopogon citratus, is a plant native to Southeast Asia with a citrus scent and lemon-like flavor. It can be consumed in several ways, the most popular being in tea or food such as soup, chicken, or stir fry.
If preparing your own lemongrass, be sure to cut off the bulbous part on the bottom of the stalk. The stalk itself is edible, but it is tough and chewy, therefore many people choose to remove it before consuming lemongrass.
Certain studies showed that Lemongrass has proven to cause cancer cell death through apoptosis after altering the cell’s membrane potential and increasing the reactive oxygen species in the cell. More studies are being done.
